"Baggage" is a journey through place and memory; the title is a pun. Victoria walks a pilgrimage, the destination of which is reconciliation, not only with the man she married and the memories of that marriage, but with her self. Or perhaps 'integration' is a better word, one of the outstanding qualities of this book being the multiple dimensions of the journey, the wholeness of being discovered and celebrated: emotional, physical, erotic and spiritual. And it is a journey made in and through the act of writing: the sentences discover and disclose as we accompany her - and it really does feel like that, sore feet and all! - as she treks across northern Spain to that famous goal of Santiago, enacting, practising, her belief in the power of words to heal and make whole.
