Un'inchiesta con cui il direttore del Nuovo sta marcando stretti il reporter e il suo collega, "l'Artista", che con la loro tendenza all'insubordinazione non godono certo delle sue simpatie... Ma a scombinare l'agenda di Marchi arriva una notizia che gli fa subito drizzare le antenne: nella notte, a pochi passi da Gotham, un ciclista è stato ucciso da un'auto pirata scomparsa nel nulla. Un banale incidente? Solo all'apparenza. Perché se si aggiunge che la vittima era il dirigente americano di una nota azienda farmaceutica, e che solo pochi giorni prima era rimasto coinvolto in una retata in un ambiguo locale del centro, il caso si fa piuttosto interessante. Molte e intricate sono le piste che si aprono davanti alle forze dell'ordine e a chiunque abbia voglia di vederci chiaro: una lugubre villa dalle finestre murate, un misterioso iPhone placcato d'oro, un barbone che forse dice la verità, un pericoloso boss della malavita... Marchi si troverà alle prese con l'inchiesta più complessa, torbida e inquietante della sua carriera.It's a hot July morning, schools are now closed and an unreal silence has fallen on the semi-deserted streets of Florence and its surroundings, but Carlo Alberto Marchi, tenacious reporter and tireless single father, continues inexorably to wake up at ten past seven. All that remains is to travel to "Gotham City", the futuristic Palace of Justice on the outskirts of the city - as well as one of the ten ugliest buildings in the world according to various rankings - and go hunting for news on the alarming wave of overdose deaths which has hit the city in recent months. An investigation with which the director of the Nuovo is closely marking the reporter and his colleague, "the Artist", who with their tendency towards insubordination certainly do not enjoy his sympathy ... But to mess up the Marchi's diary comes news that immediately makes him raise his antennae: in the night, a few steps from Gotham, a cyclist was killed by a pirate car that disappeared into thin air. A trivial accident? Only in appearance. Because if we add that the victim was the American executive of a well-known pharmaceutical company, and that just a few days earlier he had been involved in a raid on an ambiguous downtown venue, the case becomes quite interesting. Many and intricate are the tracks that open up before the police and anyone who wants to see clearly: a gloomy villa with walled-up windows, a mysterious gold-plated iPhone, a homeless man who perhaps tells the truth, a dangerous boss of the underworld... Marchi will find himself grappling with the most complex, murky and disturbing investigation of his career.
