In March 2022, the time and duration of Democracy surpassed that of the Military Dictatorship and the Estado Novo regime. Implemented by a military coup on May 28, 1926, it would be another military movement that, after 48 years, on April 25, 1974, would overthrow the Estado Novo dictatorship and open the doors to the Portuguese Revolution of 1974- 1975 and the Democracy institutionalized by the 1976 Constitution.
