Summary

As children, Lili, her brother Wilhelm and the neighbor's son Paul were inseparable. But everything is different after the First World War: Wilhelm is reported missing, Paul buries himself in his grandfather's diamond workshop, and Lili flees to live in Berlin. At a meal, she meets State Secretary Carl von Schubert, and soon the German Reich government asks Lili for her support: Von Schubert is looking for a first-class diamond cutter. With the covert sale of the valuable stones one wants to avoid the reparation payments of the victorious powers and fill the state treasury. Lili recommends her childhood friend Paul. When a rough diamond is found next to a corpse, the police take up the investigation - and all the threads come together with the diamond girl Lili...Als Kinder waren Lili, ihr Bruder Wilhelm und der Nachbarssohn Paul unzertrennlich. Doch nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg ist alles anders: Wilhelm gilt als vermisst, Paul vergräbt sich in der Diamantenschleifwerkstatt seines Großvaters, und Lili flüchtet ins Leben nach Berlin. Bei einem Essen lernt sie Staatssekretär Carl von Schubert kennen, und bald darauf bittet die deutsche Reichsregierung Lili um ihre Unterstützung: Von Schubert sucht nach einem erstklassigen Diamantenschleifer. Mit dem verdeckten Verkauf der wertvollen Steine will man die Reparationszahlungen der Siegermächte umgehen und so die Staatskasse füllen. Lili empfiehlt ihren Jugendfreund Paul. Als neben einer Leiche ein Rohdiamant gefunden wird, nimmt die Polizei die Ermittlungen auf - und alle Fäden laufen beim Diamantenmädchen Lili zusammen ...
