Stanford Parish lies in the County of Kent in south east England and includes the villages of Stanford and Westenhanger and, until recently, the hamlet of Gibbins Brook. It is a small rural parish and has grown very little over time. This book documents the changes that have taken place over the centuries to this small community. The effects of the Royals then the Prime Ministers who governed, the laws they made, justice, punishment and how they influenced the lives of those who lived in these two small villages. From Roman settlements and their treasures to King Henry VIII's ownership of Westenhanger Castle, so steeped in history, it provides a fascinating read. It includes such highlights as the villages' contribution to the Spanish Armada, the civil war, the Swing Riots and the two world wars. The coming of the railway and later the M20 motorway which separated the villages and the Channel Tunnel development all have had a long-term impact on the community.Above all it is about the people who lived in this place, what they did, their status, their work, the good times and the bad.
