Watch out! Hoot Owl is hungry in an offbeat story with deadpan humor and bold, striking illustrations. Features an audio read-along! Hoot Owl is no ordinary owl. He is a master of disguise! In the blackness of night, he's preparing to swoop on his prey before it can realize his dastardly tricks. Look there—a tasty rabbit for him to eat! Hoot Owl readies his costume, disguising himself as . . . a carrot! Then he waits. The rabbit runs off. Never mind! Surely his next juicy target will cower against such a clever and dangerous creature as he! Kids will hoot at Sean Taylor's deliciously tongue-in-beak narration, belied by the brilliantly comical illustrations of Jean Jullien.

Biography/History:
Sean Taylor grew up on the outskirts of London and currently lives in Bristol in the south of England. Early in his life, he zigzagged through different jobs, including working at Pluto Press, writing for newspapers, teaching adults to read and write, and working in community arts. All that time, he was writing poems and stories, and his first book was a collection of poetry for adults. In 1994 he wrote his first children's story, and it won second prize in the Independent/Scholastic Story of the Year Competition that year. This encouraged him to write more for young readers, and he is now the author of more than fifty titles, including picture books for Candlewick Press such as The World Champion of Staying Awake; Hoot Owl, Master of Disguise; A Brave Bear; and Don't Call Me Choochie Pooh! Three Things You Didn't Know About Sean Taylor: 1. He spends some of his time living in Brazil, where his wife is from, and sometimes finds himself thinking in Portuguese. 2. Once, at Carnival in Brazil, he dressed up as Robin Hood and fired arrows with poems on them into the crowd. (He has also dressed up as John Lennon, a punk, a businessman in a pinstriped suit, and a caveman.) 3. His favorite way to get around is by bicycle.
