[Stitched]John Saltmarsh, radical preached and theologian, was for a time vicar of Cranbrook, and of Brasted. He was an important figure in the time of the English Civil War, and was an army chaplain to the Parliamentary army. Thomas Edwards had criticised Saltmarsh, for, amongst other things, allowing a woman to preach in Brasted Church.
