The year 2013 marked the sexcentenary of the death of King Henry IV, who chose to have his remains interred in the heart of Canterbury Cathedral close to the shrine of St Thomas Becket. The Canterbury-based SaveAs Writers, passionate about promoting Kent’s literary and cultural heritage, launched an International Shakespeare Writing Competition to mark the anniversary. Writers and poets were invited to produce works using Shakespeare and his works as inspiration. The winning and shortlisted entries are included in “Words, Words, Words”, a rich anthology of quality prose and poetry by writers from the UK and abroad: Julian Gyll-Murray, Sarah Doyle, Geralyn Pinto, Rosalind Brown, Don Nixon, Vicky Joynson, Janice Fox, Geraldine Clarkson, Heather Harrison, Marilyn Donovan, Anne Ballard and David Lukens. The collection also includes three specially commissioned poems by Canterbury poets Jo Field, Derek Sellen and Geraldine Paine and a foreword by Victoria Grainger. Edited by Luigi Marchini, Chairman of SaveAs Writers. The group meets regularly in Canterbury and runs writing competitions throughout the year. Find out more on www.saveaswriters.co.uk.
