Searching the Library Catalogue

Quick Search

Use the search the library catalogue box on the home page to enter one or more words and then click the search button. If your search is successful a page of records will be displayed showing brief details. Click on a title link to display full details including location and status details.

Advanced Search

Allows you to perform more complex searches. Type your search in the boxes on the search screen. You can enter several words in each box and enter words in any number of boxes.

if AND is selected, your search will return any records that contain all your search terms. Eg. Title = Harry Potter (Phrase) AND Author = Rowling will only return books that both have Harry Potter in the title and an author named Rowling.

if OR is selected, your search will return any records that contain either of your search terms. Eg Title = Harry Potter (Phrase) OR Author = Rowling will return results with Harry Potter in the title by any author and any books by an author named Rowling.

if NOT is selected, results will specifically exclude the second criteria. Eg. Title = Harry Potter NOT Author = Rowling will only return books with Harry Potter in the title not written by an author named Rowling.

You can do a very specific search if you know exactly what you are looking for, or you can do a broader search and then narrow down the list of records later using the Refine Set option, if needed.
